About Medical University

History

The UMST began as a private, non-profit making educational Academy, in Khartoum, Sudan in 1996. UMST was established by Professor Mamoun Homeida former vice-chancellor at the University of Khartoum (and later Minister of Health for Khartoum State). Homeida also recruited several faculty members from the University of Khartoum.

Since then, the Academy expanded to 14 undergraduate faculties, namely, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Radiological Sciences, Anaesthesia, Nursing Technology, Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Business Administration, Economics Social and Environmental Studies, Mass Communication, and Law. It also has a School of Nursing Technology and offers 14 Masters degree programs, four PhD programs and four postgraduate diplomas. It became a full university in 2007.

Annual student undergraduate fees for the year 2016-2017 ranged from US$1,500 (Nursing Diploma) to US$15,000 (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). Local Sudanese and international students pay the same fees. From 2014-2017 there were reports that about 20[9] students at UMST had been recruited by an organisation called the Islamic Cultural Organisation (ICO) to join ISIS. ICO was banned by Mamoun Homeida and UMST was not regarded by the British Medical Journal as a university particularly exposed to radical Islamic influences.

Vision

To create a brilliant and bright future for UMST from which the students, faculty, staff, the nation and the world will benefit. UMST values excellence, quality and service. UMST continuously seeks to foster innovation and creativity.

The Teaching Hospital and a number of health centers were established to receive the students. About City

Sudan (Arabic: السودان Al-Sudan) is the third largest country in Africa and sixteenth largest in the world, bordering Egypt, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Ethiopia, Libya, and South Sudan. Getting a visa for Sudan is an expensive hit-and-miss affair, but if you do manage to get in, and you stick to the safe areas, you will probably have a memorable experience. The Sudanese people are very hospitable, and you can visit some awesome tourist attractions without even seeing another tourist.

Know More
Sudan is afflicted by civil wars which have been raging, on and off, for more than 40 years. When the colonial map-makers divided up Africa, they included in Sudan the predominantly Muslim people of the north (including Nubians), who share much of their history and culture with Egyptians and Arabs, and the largely Christian and Animist Nilotic and Bantu people of the south, who have more in common with the rest of sub-Saharan Africa than with their northern neighbours.
