About Medical University
Overview
Oman Medical College is the second medical college in the Sultanate of Oman, and is situated in Muscat and Sohar in the North Batinah region. The pharmacy campus is located in Bowsher. First year is taught as a foundation course and second and third years are completed before the medical school years of Sohar campus.
Some part of the coursework is also completed in Rustaq with students taking courses with doctors at Rustaq hospital. The associated hospital with the Sohar campus is Sohar hospital, one of the biggest governmental hospitals in the country. Total course work spans over a period of 7 years and the degree awarded is that of a Doctor of Medicine (M.D).
The Bowsher campus also offers a degree in pharmacy (Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy). This degree spans over a period of 5 and a half years. History of NU The National University of Science & Technology, the rising star among private Universities in Oman, has commenced its operations in September 2018 and successfully inducted the first cohort of students for Foundation Program.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has accorded permission to establish the University by combining three professional colleges in Oman renowned for excellence in Education & Research. College of Medicine and Health Sciences is committed to preparing high quality health professionals who are dedicated to meeting the present and future health care needs of the people of Oman and beyond.
The curriculum for M.D and BPharm have been developed in Academic partnership with West Virginia University, USA. West Virginia University (WVU), nationally rated as 13th in training rural-medicine doctors, is a public, land-grant, space-grant, research-intensive university located three fantastic campuses namely Morgantown, Charleston and Eastern campuses which are united by a single mission.
The Doctor of Medicine degree is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME). WVU has 60 research labs in our facility and 4,700 School of Medicine alumni practicing or living around the world. WVU medical students undergo a portion of their training at these off-campus sites where they learn the demands of rural health care first-hand.
More than 87 USD million in scholarships was awarded to WVU students during the 2016-17 academic year. Recently, National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded WVU USD 11.2 million for interdisciplinary cancer research. Academic partnership with West Virginia University, USA The College of Pharmacy is offering a four year program leading to the Bachelor of Pharmacy. The college has been approved by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Oman.

The Library and Information Services at National University provide study facilities, books loans, learning resources, e-Journals and e-Books. With an expansive range of online journal subscriptions and online books, e-learning is fundamental part of the library services, helping students with their learning and research activities both on and off campus. Common study areas, quiet study areas for individuals and group, and a Learning Resource Center (LRC) are all available.
National University encourages students to participate in sports and cultural activities. National University provides hostel facilities. However facilities for boy’s accommodation is limited to a few campuses. Hostel And Mess Facilities available at Oman Medical College SAOC
University has a very good hostel campus with free Wifi access. Accommodations for students are available as singles, doubles and triples. Additionally, there are separate hostels for women and men. All hostels are furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other necessary items. Facilities within the campus include a supermarket, a clinic, a pharmacy, etc. The hostel is monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. For Indian students on campus, Mess is also available. All students are subject to strict hostel rules. The hostel also serves Indian food.

The Sultanate of Oman is in the Middle East, on the southeastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. Climate
Oman has one of the hottest and driest climates in the world. However, there are substantial differences between the coastal zone, the mountain regions, the arid inland desert and the southwestern region of Dhofar.
Summer day temperatures on the coast can easily exceed 40°C (104°F). Coupled to night temperatures of 30°C (88°F) or more and relatively high humidity, this makes going outside very unpleasant. In the Omani desert, Summer daytime temperatures of over 50°C (122°F) have been reported. Winter is much more pleasant with daytime temperatures generally between 25 and 30°C, and is therefore the preferred period of travel.
Rainfall is less than 100 mm (3.9 in) per year, mainly falling in Winter in the form of very heavy and prolonged thunderstorms. These can lead to dangerous flashfloods in the lower reaches of the usually dry river beds. In the mountain areas, temperatures are milder with more rainfall. In the higher reaches (over 2000 m), snowfall is even possible in Winter, though this will never last for more than a single day. The Dhofar region has a different climate with monsoon rains between late June and late September. Summer temperatures are much more pleasant there. Because of its hot climate, sea water temperatures are high all year round.
Arrivals
Virtually all international flights arrive at Muscat International Airport (MCT) in Muscat. There are also a small number of regional international flights to Salalah (SLL). Purchasing a visa on arrival in Salalah can be quite difficult, as the airport is very small and immigration officials tend not to have change for larger notes.
There are scheduled services by numerous airlines, including but not limited to Oman Air, Emirates, Gulf Air, Etihad, British Airways, Kuwait Airways, Saudi Arabian Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Swiss International, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Air India, Air France, and Thai Airways International. The most frequent connections are via Dubai (DXB).
There are also direct flights from various Indian cities by airlines like Air India, Indigo and Spicejet.
