About Medical University
The Southwestern University (SWU), officially the Southwestern University PHINMA, is a private university in Cebu City, Philippines founded in 1946 by two pharmacists. It started as Southwestern Colleges in the summer of 1946 and became a university on December 11, 1959. The university and its base hospital were acquired by PHINMA Education, a subsidiary of PHINMA in 2015.
The university was renamed to Southwestern University PHINMA and the hospital from Sacred Heart Hospital to Southwestern University Medical Center. The university changed the logo and closed its South Campus in Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City.

School of Medicine Established in 1951, Southwestern University prides itself as the first medical school outside Manila.
In its formative years, classroom instructions were conducted in the pre-World War II residence of the university’s founders with fourteen (14) pioneering students and six (6) members of the faculty. As the university’s flagship program, it is now housed in a 7-storey building complete with advanced educational facilities and seamlessly integrated with the university’s training hospital, the SWU Medical Center. Southwestern University is in the south of the City of Cebu, Philippines. The university has two campuses. The main campus is located on Urgello St. and the Aznar Coliseum Complex is on Aznar Road.
The university once has a South Campus (Basak Campus) on E. Sabellano St., Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City which is now closed and has been in operation by another school. The closed South Campus formerly housed the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Elementary and High School Training Departments.
The main campus is the home of the colleges of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, Computer Studies, Criminology, Dentistry, Engineering, Graduate School, Law, Maritime, Medical Technology, Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and Teachers' College. The Southwestern Medical Center (formerly Sacred Heart Hospital), Pathology and Biology Museums, Library, Interfaith Chapel, Botanical Garden, and the Administrative Offices are found in the main campus.

University has a very good hostel campus with free Wifi access. Accommodations for students are available as singles, doubles and triples. Additionally, there are separate hostels for women and men. All hostels are furnished with beds, chairs, tables, and other necessary items. Facilities within the campus include a supermarket, a clinic, a pharmacy, etc. The hostel is monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. For Indian students on campus, Mess is also available. All students are subject to strict hostel rules. The hostel also serves Indian food.
