University History

In 1780, an "higher institution for philosophical education" was founded in Oradea, transformed in 1788 into a Faculty of Law, the oldest faculty, not only in present-day Romania, but in a vast region of eastern Europe.

Starting with 1921, all the courses of the Faculty of Law were held in Romanian, so that in 1923, by founding two Theological Academies, the university life of Oradea would receive new dimensions.

The Law Academy of Oradea, together with the two Theological Academies, had to take another step, by integrating a Faculty of Letters, to fulfill an older desideratum of forming a university of Crişana in Oradea, only in 1934, in circumstances that are quickly overlooked, the university nucleus in Oradea falls apart, and the Faculty of Law, after a century and a half of uninterrupted activity, is abolished and transferred to Cluj.

After almost three decades from the interruption of the activity of the Law Academy of Oradea, on October 1, 1963, by an Order of the Ministry of Education, a 3-year Pedagogical Institute is established in Oradea, meant to meet the shortage of teachers in general education. . The new higher education institution from Oradea starts its activity with two faculties: philology and mathematics-physics, to which from the following year the Faculty of History-Geography and the Faculty of Physical Education are added.

In May 1990, by a decree of the Romanian government, the Technical University was established, then called the University of Oradea, on the strong foundation of some prestigious Oradea university traditions.

Medical Adventure School on Holidays (MASH) is an annual summer training camping for medical students that started in 2001. It offers first aid courses, training for rescues in special situations, as well as various competitions and team tasks, to medical students from all over Europe.

About City

Romania is a southeastern European country known for the forested region of Transylvania, ringed by the Carpathian Mountains. Its preserved medieval towns include Sighişoara, and there are many fortified churches and castles, notably clifftop Bran Castle, long associated with the Dracula legend. Bucharest, the country’s capital, is the site of the gigantic, Communist-era Palatul Parlamentului government building.

Romania (România) is situated on the western shores of the Black Sea. It enjoys great natural beauty and diversity and a rich cultural heritage. Romania enchants visitors with its scenic mountain landscapes and unspoiled countryside areas, and also with its historic cities and its busy capital. Over the last decade Romania had undergone a significant development and it is one of the recent members of the European Union. Tourists from western countries might still, even today, enjoy some surprising experiences in Romania. This is a large country which can sometimes be shocking with contrasts: some cities are truly Western Europe; some villages can seem to have been brought back from the past. Things for which Romania is famous include: the Carpathian mountains, sculptor Constantin Brancusi, wine, salt mines, George Enescu, medieval fortresses, Eugene Ionesco, "Dacia" cars, Dracula, stuffed cabbage leaves, Nadia Comaneci, primeval dense forests, the Black Sea, Gheorghe Hagi, sunflower fields, wolves and bears, painted monasteries, the Danube Delta.
