The University of Szeged being the greatest institution in the Southern Great Plain region considers its main responsibility to play active part in facilitating regional social, economic and cultural development, while with its charitable activities the University serves to influence the life of local citizens and acts in solidarity towards them. The University of Szeged with all its above mentioned activities aims to achieve the esteem and support of the local community and the general public.
We intend to continue with the developing and constructing work launched by Kunó Klebelsberg. In the Institution Building Plan of the University, we set ourselves the goal of adhering to the labor market’s expectations both in the content and in the methodology in regional, national and international context in order to ensure that the University of Szeged becomes a competitive institution providing competency-based and practice-oriented knowledge in all horizons of our study programmes and scientific fields. We have a fierce pride that the University of Szeged was ranked the best Hungarian university in 2018, making it to list of the best 500 universities of the world. The rapid University developments conducted between 1926 and 1930 launched by Kunó Klebelsberg are worth around 80 billion HUF at today’s prices. Developments that started in 2018 could be even apostrophed as Plan Klebelsberg II.
Our priority is to develop education, research, healthcare services as well as third mission activities including social responsibility. Developments worth billions of forints – financed by own, governmental and EU sources – involves the buildings of the Faculty of Music, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, the former Department of Infectious Diseases at the Pediatrician Clinic, the building housing the Oto- Rhyno- and Laryngology Clinic and the building of the future and so called ‘Theoretical Block’ of the Medical and Health Sciences Programmes. For the continuation of the line of clinics construction, the Life Sciences Centre will be prepared, opening up new perspectives for healthcare and informatics-related study programmes.
The above mentioned broad range of infrastructural investments and structural improvements define the long-term future of the entire university. We are very proud of continuing the heritage of Albert Szent-Györgyi: besides our research results, this is demonstrated by the thousands of patients cured in the world-class, new 265-bed hospital building. Eleven patient care units are housed in this fivestorey complex. They include the Emergency Care Unit, equipped with the most up-to-date instruments and run by the most modern patient management system. We are very proud of having produced the most modern Surgical Centre in Hungary.

Its cityscape is studded with architectural landmarks from Buda’s medieval Castle Hill and grand neoclassical buildings along Pest’s Andrássy Avenue to the 19th-century Chain Bridge. Turkish and Roman influence on Hungarian culture includes the popularity of mineral spas, including at thermal Lake Hévíz.
Hungary (Magyarország) is a country in Central Europe bordering Slovakia to the north, Austria to the west, Slovenia and Croatia to the south west, Serbia to the south, Romania to the east and Ukraine to the north east. Member of the European Union and the Schengen Border-less Europe Agreement. The country offers many diverse destinations: relatively low mountains in the north-west, the Great Plain in the east, lakes and rivers of all sorts (including Balaton - the largest lake in Central Europe), and many beautiful small villages and hidden gems of cities. Top this off with Hungary's great accessibility in the middle of Europe, a vivid culture and economy, and you get a destination absolutely not worth missing if you're in the region.
Climate
Absolute values of temperatures in Hungary vary from -20°C (-4F) to 39°C (102F) through the year. Distribution and frequency of rainfall are unpredictable due to the continental climate of the country. Heavy storms are frequent after hot summer days, and rainfall is more frequent in the Autumn. The western part of the country usually receives more rain than the eastern part, and severe droughts may occur in summertime. Weather conditions in the Great Plain can be especially harsh, with hot summers, cold winters, and scant rainfall. The weather of the capital city is humid continental with agreeable temperatures in spring and autumn, during the summertime the climate is warm and sudden heavy showers are common, while the winter is cold and the temperatures are usually under 0 degrees.
